Interpreted Photography
The advent of better digital cameras, the ever-increasing capabilities of Photoshop, and the acquisition of a wide-format printer have allowed me to push the envelope of creativity and produce an expanding array of hybrid artwork that blurs the lines between painting and photography.
My images may begin as photos, but they usually… but not always… end up looking more like a cross between a painting and a photograph. So, for lack of a more descriptive term, I refer to my artistic technique as “Interpreted photography.”
I use my computer to interpret what I see in the photograph. I enhance, blur, sharpen, and filter the image, until it ends up the way I want it to look.
In order to maintain the essence of true photography I NEVER add anything to an image that wasn’t there when I pressed the shutter button. Beyond that, I let my imagination and the tools at my disposal interpret the image to produce the most visually interesting outcome.
If you find my work esthetically pleasing… if my images reveal some aspect of your surroundings that you aren’t likely to pay attention to otherwise… if they make you see the world in a different way… then I have succeeded in doing what I set out to do.

Artist's Statement
I have put together an eclectic body of work that is a reflection of how I see the world. There are subtle elements in my work, but overall I tend toward bold, evocative images.
Finding art in everyday objects
Where many photographers concentrate their efforts on “scenics” of subjects such as lakes or sunsets, I prefer “slice of life” photos that tell a story, or focus attention on the small things we walk past every day without really seeing. I prefer to take photos of common things and transform them into art.
Scenery photos may capture the beauty of the world, but I would rather have someone look at one of my photos and remark, “Now that’s interesting.”
About Me
I'm a fourth generation Nevadan. I grew up in Las Vegas, but I now reside in Reno.
Most of my photographs were shot in Nevada and Northern California, but I have images from as far East as Missouri and New Mexico.
I hold a BS degree in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Utah, where I took my first photography classes.
I'm also a Website Designer. As you might imagine, I designed this website.
